Nahj al-Balagha recognized as a timeless charter for Islamic governance

Iranian scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Yadollah Shirmardi described Nahj al-Balagha as a foundational text for Islamic governance, offering guidance in politics, economy, culture, and justice.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Imam Ali’s (AS) Nahj al-Balagha serves as a timeless charter for Islamic governance, according to Iranian scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Yadollah Shirmardi.

Shirmardi stated that if today’s rulers adhere to the teachings of Imam Ali (AS) in Nahj al-Balagha, they will find comprehensive guidance in politics, economy, culture, and justice. He emphasized that Nahj al-Balagha is not merely a historical or literary work but a foundational text for Islamic governance.

He described the book as a literary, intellectual, and managerial miracle, noting that some literary experts consider it neither purely human nor divine, but something in between.

Shirmardi explained that Nahj al-Balagha offers operational instructions across various domains, including education, politics, economy, and culture.

“For example, it provides guidance on human upbringing, family structure, community management, and governance at local, national, and global levels. Currently, institutions in Isfahan and other accredited centers are actively extracting lessons from Nahj al-Balagha,” he said.

He stressed the importance of making Nahj al-Balagha accessible to all professions and fields, ensuring that its teachings find their rightful place in Islamic governance.

Shirmardi also highlighted that Imam Ali (AS) repeatedly emphasizes the mutual rights of rulers and the people in Nahj al-Balagha.

“The ruler must serve the people, consult with them, act transparently, and stand by them in times of hardship. In return, the people should sincerely obey the ruler,” he explained.

Nahj al-Balagha is a collection of sermons, letters, and sayings left as a memorial from Imam Ali (AS). The book was compiled by Sayed Radhi over a thousand years ago.
